SCIENCE

Over the last week, I've been thinking a lot about science. Not just the data and information science discovers, but the whole discipline.
Admittedly, I've read more scientific articles and studies over the last 6 months than I probably have in my lifetime. And as I argue with friends about what it all means, I've come to realize science might be the only discipline that celebrates when they realize they are wrong.
The entire scientific process is built on testing and confirming one's beliefs. It's been fascinating to read articles where the top epidemiologist says things like "we thought this, but come to find out this is what's happening!" You can legitimately feel their excitement in discovering their initial theory was wrong. They are not afraid, to admit they were wrong!
Oh if everyone could with such excitement and freedom admit what they thought was wrong!
What if not only was their now shame in realizing you were wrong, but that we celebrated it as a society?!
What if instead of digging our heals in the sand about something, we laid everything on the table for consistent re-evaluation?
But what about faith and confidence? If we are consistently re-evaluating and testing our beliefs, how does one ever have rock-solid faith? Yet, that's precisely the place where rock-solid faith is birthed! The constant testing under fire; it perfects and purifies faith.
